Adeleke Suspends NURTW Activities In Osun Motor Parks, Orders Security Clampdown

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered the immediate suspension of all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in motor parks across the state as part of efforts to restore peace and strengthen public security.

The directive was announced on Thursday after a meeting of the Osun State Security Council presided over by the governor.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the government said the decision followed a comprehensive review of the state’s security situation, particularly concerns surrounding activities in motor parks.

Governor Adeleke directed the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to halt all NURTW operations in motor parks across Osun, clarifying that the order does not amount to the closure of the parks.

He also ordered the immediate suspension of the collection of levies within the parks and warned that anyone claiming to be an official or executive of the union while carrying out activities in the parks should be arrested and prosecuted for breaching public peace.

The governor stressed that security agencies must ensure strict compliance with the directive, insisting that the measure is aimed at restoring order rather than disrupting transportation services.

According to the statement, heads of the various security agencies present at the meeting pledged their full support for the enforcement of the government’s directive.

To strengthen security enforcement, Adeleke approved the immediate establishment of a Rapid Response Squad made up of personnel drawn from all security agencies operating in the state.

The Security Council meeting was attended by senior officials from the Nigeria Police Force, including representatives of the Osun State Command and Zone 11, as well as the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigerian Correctional Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), and the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun.

Also in attendance were the Deputy Governor, the Chief of Staff, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters.

The latest directive underscores the Osun State Government’s renewed effort to maintain law and order while preventing activities capable of disrupting public peace across the state’s motor parks.
