Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has approved Tuesday, July 28, 2026, as a work-free day for all public servants to enable them collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the state’s governorship election.
The directive was contained in a circular issued by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, and applies to workers across the state civil service, including employees of local government councils and tertiary institutions.
The announcement was made in a statement released on Monday by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.
According to the state government, the work-free day is intended to give public servants the opportunity to fulfil their civic responsibility before the governorship election and future electoral exercises in the state.
The government, however, advised personnel providing essential services, particularly those in the medical and security sectors, to make adequate arrangements to ensure their absence does not disrupt critical public services.

Adeleke also appealed to both public servants and workers in the informal sector who are yet to obtain their PVCs to visit designated collection centres without further delay, stressing the significance of the upcoming election.
“I encourage all registered voters to reach all the collection points without delay.
“Your vote is your power. Your voters card is your licence to the ballot paper and by extension to the ballot box,” the governor said.
The Osun State governorship election is scheduled for August 15, 2026. Adeleke, the incumbent governor and candidate of the Accord Party, is seeking another term in office against leading contenders, including Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cleared 14 political parties to participate in the election, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party are not fielding candidates.
