Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has urged stakeholders to ensure a free, fair and transparent governorship election scheduled for the 15th of August, 2026.
The governor stressed that the credibility of the ballot must be protected throughout the process.
Adeleke shared this on Monday, the 9th of March while hosting members of the Public Accounts Committee of the House of Representatives at the Government House in Osogbo during an official visit.
Speaking to the lawmakers, the governor described the coming election as an important democratic event not just for Osun but for the country’s electoral system.
He noted that protecting the sanctity of the vote remains key to strengthening democracy.
According to the governor, “Credible election is not optional but a compulsory process to safeguard the democratic system.”
Adeleke said the election will draw wide attention because it will be among the last major polls before the 2027 general elections.
“For us in Osun State, August 15 is a critical phase for national democratic evolution. As the last major election before the general elections of 2027, Osun is in the eyes of the nation and the world,” he said.
He added that all participants in the electoral process must work to ensure the outcome reflects the genuine choice of voters through a transparent voting exercise.

The governor also used the meeting to highlight projects carried out by his administration across the state.
He explained that his government has concentrated on completing abandoned projects while also starting new ones in different sectors.
According to him, the administration has been tackling inherited financial liabilities, including unpaid salaries and pension arrears, while running programmes in health, education, agriculture, infrastructure and economic growth.
Earlier, the Deputy Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, Jeremiah Umar, commended the governor for ongoing development projects across the state.
Umar said, “When we were coming, we saw flyovers in different places in Osogbo and other towns. Opposite the State Government Secretariat, we also saw a dual carriageway under construction, which shows significant development activities.”
He added that residents who spoke with the visiting delegation also pointed to improvements in public services, including the upgrade of primary healthcare centres and progress recorded by state-owned universities.
