Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged the Methodist Church of Nigeria to remain steadfast in speaking truth to those in authority and advocating justice, accountability and good governance in the country.
Obi made the appeal on Thursday while attending the opening ceremony of the 50th/15th Biennial Conference of the Methodist Church of Nigeria in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
In a statement shared on his X account, the former Anambra State governor said he joined Governor Seyi Makinde and Methodist faithful from across the country and beyond at the event.
He expressed gratitude to God for sustaining the church over the years and reflected on Nigeria’s vast potential.
“I encourage the Church and its delegates to remain steadfast in speaking truth to power, standing with the suffering masses, and continuing to advocate for justice, good governance, and a better Nigeria for all, especially in these challenging times,” he said.

According to Obi, the church remains one of the nation’s strongest symbols of hope, moral guidance and social responsibility.
He also urged religious leaders to continue praying for the country and for political officeholders to prioritise the interests of the people.
“I urge them always to pray that God Almighty would touch the hearts of politicians and leaders so that they will always think and use public resources for the public good,” he added.
Obi thanked the Methodist Church for the invitation and wished participants a successful conference.
The biennial conference brought together Methodist leaders, clergy and worshippers from within and outside Nigeria to deliberate on issues affecting both the church and the nation.
