Nigeria’s Super Falcons booked their place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after thrashing Egypt 6-2 in a thrilling Group Stage encounter in Casablanca on Tuesday.
The nine-goal contest at Stade Larbi Zaouli saw the former African champions produce an impressive attacking display as they bounced back from their opening defeat of the tournament to secure a place in the knockout stage.
With qualification hanging in the balance following a loss to Malawi and a victory over Zambia in their previous matches, the Falcons rose to the occasion, taking control midway through the first half.
Asisat Oshoala opened the scoring in the 21st minute from the penalty spot after the referee awarded a spot-kick following a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review for a handball offence.
Nigeria doubled their lead in first-half stoppage time when substitute Gift Monday marked her first goal of the tournament with a composed finish.
Egypt, however, reduced the deficit before the interval as Nadine Ghazi converted from the penalty spot after another VAR intervention, sending the teams into the break with Nigeria leading 2-1.
The Super Falcons resumed the second half with renewed intensity and restored their two-goal advantage in the 57th minute through substitute Uchenna Kanu, who capitalised on a defensive error.

Nigeria continued to dominate proceedings and were awarded another penalty after VAR spotted an infringement inside the Egyptian penalty area. Christy Ucheibe calmly converted in the 81st minute to stretch the lead to 4-1.
Ghazi completed her brace three minutes later to briefly give Egypt hope at 4-2, but Nigeria quickly ended any thoughts of a comeback.
The Falcons won yet another penalty deep into added time, with captain Rashidat Ajibade confidently converting in the 91st minute to make it 5-2.
Ajibade then turned provider moments later, setting up Joy Omewa, who rounded the goalkeeper before slotting home in the 94th minute to cap an emphatic 6-2 victory.
Nigeria controlled much of the contest, enjoying 59 per cent possession and repeatedly troubling the Egyptian defence with wave after wave of attacks.
The game also produced several bookings, with Egypt’s Essam H., Menna Tarek and Nour Abdelwahed all cautioned, while Nigeria’s Michelle Alozie and Uchenna Kanu were shown yellow cards. Egypt coach Mohamed Kamal also received a late booking.
The comprehensive victory sends Nigeria into the WAFCON 2026 quarter-finals with renewed confidence as they continue their quest for another continental title.
