Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has alleged that soldiers attempted to prevent him from entering Osun State as voters cast ballots in Saturday’s governorship election.
Davido made the claim on his verified X account early Saturday, August 15, 2026, saying he had been informed that soldiers were seeking to block his entry into the state.
He insisted that he would not be deterred and argued that Nigerians have a constitutional right to freedom of movement.
The allegation came amid a statewide movement restriction imposed for the election. The Nigeria Police Force had announced that movement across Osun would be restricted from midnight on Friday, August 14, until 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, as part of the security arrangements for the poll.
However, there was no immediate confirmation from the police or military that Davido had been specifically targeted. The singer did not identify the soldiers allegedly involved or provide details of any direct encounter with security personnel.

Former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad dismissed Davido’s complaint as “dramatic”, saying the movement restriction was a general election security measure.
Ahmad argued that the right to freedom of movement did not exempt anyone from complying with lawful restrictions introduced to safeguard the electoral process.
Davido’s involvement in the election has drawn attention because he is the nephew of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election on the Accord Party platform.
Adeleke’s major challenger is the All Progressives Congress candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.
As voting continued across Osun, Davido’s claim that security personnel specifically sought to prevent his entry remained unsubstantiated, while the statewide movement restriction was part of the officially announced election security measures.
