The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has secured victory in all the chairmanship and councillorship contests held during the August 29, 2026 local government elections in Anambra State.
The results were affirmed on Sunday by the Chairman of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, ANSIEC, Genevieve Osakwe, at the commission’s headquarters in Awka.
Osakwe announced that APGA candidates won all 21 chairmanship positions, while the party also secured the councillorship seats across the 21 local government areas, based on results declared at the ward level.
She said the commission had subjected the results to careful collation and analysis to eliminate errors before formally affirming them.
Osakwe said, “All the candidates of APGA have been officially declared winners as Councilors and Executive Council Chairmen-elects.
“The elections took place across 362 electoral wards and 21 local government areas (LGAs) in Anambra State and it was conducted in a peaceful, free, fair, transparent and credible manner in line with the state electoral laws and guidelines.”
APGA was the only party to field candidates in 20 of the 21 local government areas, while the Young Progressives Party, YPP, contested only in Anambra East Local Government Area.

No other opposition political party presented candidates for the election.
At the declaration ceremony, Osakwe announced the names and scores of the APGA candidates individually, declaring each winner and returning them elected after they secured the highest number of votes.
She said the election was conducted across all polling units in the state and described the exercise as peaceful, free, fair and credible.
“This is to affirm the result of the chairmanship and councilorship election held on August 29, 2026. The commission carefully collated and analysed the results to ensure that there were no mistakes.

“Election held at all the polling units across Anambra State on August 29, and it was free, fair and credible.”
The ANSIEC chairman also commended Anambra residents for turning out to participate in the election, while acknowledging the security agencies for maintaining peace and order during the exercise.
Journalists at the declaration observed that no official of an opposition party was present at the ANSIEC office. Only some APGA officials and party agents were seen at the venue when the results were formally declared on Sunday.
