Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have neutralised a Boko Haram terrorist and recovered an AK-47 rifle, three magazines and 90 rounds of ammunition during an intelligence-led operation in Yobe State.
According to a statement shared on the Nigerian Army’s Facebook page on Wednesday and signed by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force, Capt. Mohammed Goni, the operation was conducted at about 11:00 a.m. on September 1, 2026, in the Lamusuri general area of Gujba Local Government Area.
According to the military, troops of 120 Task Force Battalion, operating under Sector 2 of Operation HADIN KAI, carried out the operation in conjunction with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops moved along a suspected terrorist route in the area, where they encountered a group of Boko Haram terrorists.
The troops immediately engaged the terrorists, triggering a firefight during which **one terrorist was neutralised.
It was gathered that other members of the group reportedly fled the area, with some believed to have sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter.

Following the engagement, the troops conducted an extensive exploitation of the area and recovered significant weapons and ammunition allegedly abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
Items recovered included one AK-47 rifle, three AK-47 magazines, 90 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, and one body pouch
The latest operation represents another setback for Boko Haram elements operating within the Gujba axis, particularly as the military continues to rely on intelligence gathering and collaboration with local security stakeholders to identify terrorist movements and disrupt their operations.
The Theatre Command said the success demonstrated the effectiveness of sustained intelligence-led operations and the value of cooperation between military personnel and community-based security actors in combating terrorism.
The Nigerian troops have continued to maintain pressure on terrorist formations across Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states through offensive patrols, intelligence operations and targeted engagements.
The military said troops remain vigilant and determined to deny terrorist elements freedom of action while creating the conditions necessary for the restoration of lasting peace and security across the North-East.
The operation also highlights the continuing importance of timely and credible information from local communities in helping security forces detect terrorist movements and prevent attacks before they occur.
