The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to audit its electronic nomination portal over 10 names listed as the party’s candidates for the 2027 Anambra State House of Assembly election.
The demand, made on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, followed the party’s allegation that the affected candidates were neither nominated nor submitted by it.
Agada Theophilus, NDC Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, said the party did not submit Form EC9E documents for the 10 candidates and challenged INEC to explain how their particulars entered its system.
The dispute began on August 30, when NDC National Chairman Moses Zuwoghe alleged that 10 names unknown to the party appeared on INEC’s candidate list for Anambra.
The disputed names are Umennaajiego Jude Ezenwa (Onitsha South I), Akpotue Obinna Chibuike (Onitsha South II), Nwankwo Chiemerie (Orumba North), Maduagwu Eric K. (Anaocha I), Ngoebisi Obinna (Idemili North), Isintume Charles (Njikoka I), Nwachukwu Nonso (Nnewi South), Okeke Ifeanyi Akunne (Nnewi South II), Nnonyelu Samson E. (Ayamelum) and Azotani Chuks Francis (Dunukofia).

The NDC said its nominees emerged through its internal and appeal processes but were not reflected in the commission’s published list.
It wants an electronic audit trail showing when and how the disputed records entered the portal and the credentials used to make the entries.
INEC has rejected the allegation, maintaining that it does not nominate candidates for political parties. The commission said parties are responsible for submitting their candidates under the Constitution, Electoral Act 2026 and applicable regulations.
INEC also disputed the NDC’s account, saying its records contain nomination documents supporting the candidates on its published list.
The dispute adds to the scrutiny surrounding candidate nomination ahead of the 2027 elections. The NDC says an audit would establish the origin of the 10 entries, while INEC maintains that its list reflects submissions made through the prescribed process.
