The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of unlawfully replacing candidates nominated by the party with names it did not authorise.
In a statement issued by the party, the NDC said it was particularly concerned about the alleged substitution of candidates in various constituencies in Anambra State, the home state of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
The party alleged that INEC had uploaded and published the names of 10 individuals as its candidates for the Anambra State House of Assembly, despite insisting that the individuals were not known to the party and were never nominated or endorsed by its leadership.
According to the NDC, the names published by the electoral commission were not among those submitted by the party in accordance with the provisions of the law.
The party described the development as unacceptable, accusing INEC and its officials of “supplanting” duly nominated candidates with unauthorized names.

The NDC said the alleged action raises serious concerns about the integrity of the electoral process and called for an immediate correction of the published list.
It also maintained that only candidates properly nominated and submitted by the party through the legally recognised process should be published by the electoral commission.
The party warned that it would take appropriate steps to protect its candidates and ensure that its interests were not undermined in the electoral process.
