Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, says hunger and insecurity will not prevent President Bola Tinubu from winning re-election in 2027.
Wike spoke on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at his monthly media parley in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Responding to concerns over the impact of hardship and insecurity on Tinubu’s chances, the former Rivers State governor said such issues had featured in previous elections, including those held under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“There is no election in Nigeria where the issue of hunger and insecurity won’t come up,” Wike said.

He urged analysts to assess Nigerian elections based on the country’s political realities, arguing that grassroots networks and relationships often influence voting decisions.
According to him, political influence operates from families and communities to wards and local government areas, while many Nigerians depend on political leaders for food and other assistance.
Wike also predicted that Tinubu would secure at least 25 per cent of the vote in every northern state in 2027, while former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar would fail to reach 10 per cent in several southern states.
The minister, who remains a Peoples Democratic Party member despite serving in Tinubu’s government, was one of the five PDP governors who formed the G-5 ahead of the 2023 presidential election and opposed Atiku’s candidacy.
