The Lagos State University (LASU) has condemned an alleged assault involving a woman and a female student in one of the institution’s hostel rooms, following the circulation of a video of the incident on social media.
The footage, which emerged on Friday, showed the woman allegedly grabbing, pushing and repeatedly hitting the student during a confrontation inside the room.
Although the video triggered widespread reactions online, the circumstances that led to the altercation could not be independently established as of the time of filing this report.
The identities of the woman and the student were also not disclosed, while the reason for the confrontation remained unclear.
In the footage, the individual recording the incident could be heard trying to intervene as the woman continued confronting the student.
“Mommy, please, stop! Mommy!” the student was heard pleading.
The woman was also heard speaking in Yoruba and ordering the student to sit down during the confrontation.
The person filming the incident subsequently appeared to challenge the woman, saying, “You must be stupid! What kind of nonsense is that?”

The video was shared on X by a user identified as #AdegbolaJohn3, who alleged that the woman had accompanied her daughter to the university hostel before assaulting her daughter’s roommate.
The user called on Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the LASU Vice-Chancellor and the Lagos State Commissioner for Education to intervene.
The user wrote, “A woman followed her daughter to her hostel to beat up the roommate of her daughter in LASU. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and LASU VC and the Commissioner of Education must see this.”
The post had recorded about 38,000 views as of Friday and attracted numerous reactions, with some users seeking clarification on what precipitated the confrontation and others calling for stronger measures to protect students and maintain discipline within university accommodation.
However, the allegations made in the social media post could not be independently verified.
In response to enquiries about the incident, LASU said the matter had already been addressed by the university but strongly condemned what occurred.
“The matter has been addressed by the University. However, we condemn this in the strongest terms,” the institution said.
The university did not disclose further details about the incident or explain the steps taken after the confrontation.
It also remained unclear whether disciplinary or other measures had been imposed on the woman or any of the students involved.
