The Lagos State Government has directed all public and private schools to make registration with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) a compulsory requirement for admitting and enrolling learners from the 2026/2027 academic session.
The directive, which takes effect from Monday, September 14, 2026, requires schools to collect and document the valid LASRRA registration number of every learner during the admission and enrolment process.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Deputy Director, Public Affairs, Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), Adepeju Adeyemi, and made available to journalists on Friday.
According to the statement, the directive was approved by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Tolani Alli-Balogun, and is being implemented by the OEQA as part of efforts to build a comprehensive and verifiable database of learners across Lagos.
Alli-Balogun said the initiative would support the government’s efforts to establish a dependable database capable of improving planning, monitoring and service delivery within the education sector.
The commissioner added that registering learners on the LASRRA database would enhance school record-keeping, strengthen identification and verification, make learner tracking easier and provide government agencies with reliable information for evidence-based decisions.
Under the new policy, Adeyemi said schools must enter each learner’s LASRRA registration number in their admission and school records while also informing parents and guardians about the requirement.
She stated, “Under the new arrangement, schools have been directed to include each learner’s LASRRA registration number in admission and school records and to sensitise parents and guardians on the requirement.

Schools are also expected to advise parents whose children or wards are yet to register with LASRRA to complete the process ahead of the new academic session.”
The government also instructed schools to protect learners’ personal information by ensuring that such data is treated confidentially and securely in accordance with applicable data-protection requirements.
The Director-General of the OEQA, Dr Sulaimon Olagoke Ogunmuyiwa, said the agency would work with LASRRA and other relevant government bodies to establish procedures for generating and assigning unique PINs to learners.
He added that schools, parents, guardians and learners would receive support through sensitisation, registration and verification activities.
Ogunmuyiwa further disclosed that adherence to the directive would be incorporated into the OEQA’s routine monitoring and quality-assurance exercises in public and private schools across the state.
He urged parents, guardians and school proprietors to ensure that all children, wards and learners under their care complete LASRRA registration before the 2026/2027 academic session begins.
The development comes days after LASRRA warned its registration agents against demanding payment from residents, stressing that registration was entirely free.
The agency’s General Manager, Bilikis Adebiyi-Abiola, had also called on residents to report any registration agent who requested payment for the exercise.
