A building has collapsed in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, prompting a major emergency response as rescue teams search the rubble for possible victims.
The incident occurred on Monday evening, September 7, 2026, with the FCT Police Command confirming that it received a distress call at about 7:45 p.m.
Personnel of the FCT Fire Service were among the first responders at the scene, while three ambulances were deployed to provide emergency medical support.
The police said a response team led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, ACP Edward Akaniyene, alongside the Area Commander, Metro, ACP Georgelyn Ufomadu, moved to the scene shortly after receiving the alert.
Other agencies involved in the operation include the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Federal Fire Service, Security Service Department, Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and other emergency response organisations.

According to the police, preliminary findings showed that the affected structure had previously been marked and sealed by the FCTA Department of Development Control, with occupants directed to vacate the premises.
Despite the ongoing search, authorities said no victim had been officially confirmed as of the latest update. Rescue personnel are continuing their operations to determine whether anyone is trapped beneath the debris.
The police also said investigations had commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the collapse and determine its possible cause.
Authorities appealed to residents to remain calm and avoid the affected area to allow emergency personnel to carry out their duties without obstruction.
