Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have rescued four residents who sustained machete wounds after suspected Fulani militias attacked locals in Gonifal Village, Ganawuri District, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to a post shared by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagagola Magama on Friday, the attack occurred on Thursday night, when troops of Sector 6, OPEP, responded to a distress report about an attack on residents of the community.
It was gathered that the troops’ swift intervention reportedly forced the attackers to flee the area, following which the soldiers searched the community.
The troops subsequently found and rescued four residents with machete injuries inside a house.
The victims were identified as Bagu Mabuly, Ngyuk Bagu, Musa Bagu and Chen Bagu.

They were immediately evacuated to Ganawuri Maternity Clinic, where they received first aid treatment for the injuries sustained during the attack.
The military has since commenced a manhunt for the fleeing attackers as troops continue to comb the area in an effort to track down the suspects and prevent further attacks on residents.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to maintain peace and protect communities in Riyom and other parts of Plateau State.
