Abia ADC Candidate Challenges Otti To Show One Ohafia Project

The Abia State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Kalu Kalu, has challenged Governor Alex Otti to identify a single project executed by his administration in Ohafia Local Government Area, saying he would withdraw from the 2027 governorship race if one is presented.

Kalu, who hails from Ohafia, made the challenge during an interview on Arise TV’s The Morning Show on Friday.

He alleged that Ohafia Local Government Area had received more than ₦16 billion in allocations over the past three and a half years but claimed that no visible project had been executed by the state government in the area.

“I am from Ohafia LG of Abia State, and I’m placing it on record here that my local government has received over N16 billion for the past three and a half years,” Kalu said.

He challenged Arise TV to visit Ohafia and ask Otti and his officials to identify projects executed by the state government for residents of the area.

“Let Alex Otti and his handlers show your station any project that his government has done for the people of Ohafia Local Government. Not one,” he said.

Kalu subsequently pledged to abandon his governorship ambition if even one project undertaken by Otti’s administration in Ohafia could be identified.

“If your station will go to Ohafia Local Government and show one single project Alex Otti has done for the people of Ohafia Local Government, I will drop my gubernatorial ambition,” he said.

However, an official Abia State Government publication records that Otti commissioned the Abiriba Ring Road and the Abiriba–Ohafia Expressway in May 2026, describing the projects as being within the Ohafia Local Government Area.

Kalu also alleged that Ohafia had experienced prolonged electricity shortages, claiming that the area had been without electricity for nearly 10 years.

“Close to 10 years running, my local government or Ohafia Local Government has not seen any electricity anywhere,” he said.

Asked about his plans for Abia residents if elected, Kalu said his administration would prioritise restoring hope among young people and creating opportunities that would encourage them to remain in the state rather than seek opportunities elsewhere.

He said prolonged economic hardship had affected the confidence of young Nigerians, including those in Abia, about their prospects within the country.

“Our young people do not have hope again in this country. They all believe that the greener pasture is outside the shores of this country,” he said.

Kalu said he intended to change that perception by creating opportunities within Abia.

“By the grace of God, on the 29th day of May 2027, I will reveal the thinking, first of all, of the young people in Abia State that they don’t need to leave Abia to go to any place for greener pastures,” he said.

The ADC candidate’s comments come as political parties and their candidates intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.
