The Abia State Police Command has dismissed a viral social media report claiming that 488 Boko Haram suspects were recently detained in the state, warning that the misinformation could create unnecessary panic.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, the command clarified that the video accompanying the claim is over 11 years old and unrelated to the current security situation in Abia.
The statement, signed by Police Public Relations Officer DSP Maureen Chinaka on behalf of Commissioner of Police Danladi Isa, described the report as deliberately misleading and designed to stir fear among residents.

“As the primary internal security agency, the command reassures citizens of its continued commitment to protecting lives and property. Residents should go about their lawful activities without fear,” the statement said.
The police urged the public to verify information through credible sources and reject unverified claims.
Commissioner Isa warned that anyone spreading false information could face arrest and prosecution under the Criminal Code Act and the Cybercrime Act.
The command also called on residents to remain alert and support efforts to maintain peace by refusing to share or engage with misleading content.
