The Accord Party on Tuesday presented its Certificate of Return to Opeyemi Falegan, its candidate for the June 2026 Ekiti State governorship election. The presentation was made by the party’s National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, at the Accord Party headquarters in Abuja.
Falegan emerged as the party’s flagbearer following the governorship primary held on November 8, 2025. INEC had scheduled party primaries in Ekiti State between October 20 and November 10, with the final list of candidates set to be published on January 19, 2026.
Speaking during the event, Mgbudem congratulated Falegan on his victory, describing it as a testament to his resilience, integrity, and political sagacity. He expressed confidence that Accord would win the 2026 governorship election, saying delegates had voted for “competence, effective leadership, inclusive governance, unity, prosperity, and order in Ekiti State.”
Mgbudem urged party members to sustain momentum ahead of the 2026 off-cycle governorship elections in the FCT, Osun, and Ekiti states, which he said would set the stage for a decisive 2027 general election. He also instructed Falegan to form an inclusive, grassroots-oriented campaign team and to focus on issue-based campaigning in line with the party’s Constitution and Manifesto.

In his remarks, Falegan thanked party delegates for their confidence and outlined his key campaign priorities, including agriculture, education, youth employment, and infrastructure. He pledged to empower 1,000 youths monthly, totaling 48,000 over four years, and promised to repair major roads across the state within six months if elected.
Falegan also criticised the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, accusing the state government of being run as a “government of ex-governors, by ex-governors, for ex-governors.”
The party’s presentation of the Certificate of Return marks the formal start of Falegan’s governorship campaign ahead of the June 2026 election.
