The Adamawa State Government has called on residents to adopt the use of face masks and observe other safety measures following a surge in air pollution across the state.
This advisory was contained in a Public and Environmental Notice released by the Ministry of Environment, where the government explained, “The current atmospheric condition being experienced is not ordinary harmattan but a high level of air pollution which may pose risks to public health.”
The notice, which was made available to journalists on Tuesday, the 13th of January, 2026, through the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, Humhashi Wonosikou, highlighted the health dangers associated with prolonged exposure to polluted air.
According to the government, such exposure could result in breathing challenges, diminished lung capacity, respiratory illnesses, and irritation affecting the eyes, nose, and throat.
In outlining preventive steps, the government stated, “Members of the public are therefore advised to take the following precautions: Wear nose masks, especially in dusty or crowded areas; Limit outdoor activities where possible; drink plenty of clean water; keep food and drinking water properly covered; wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly before consumption,” urging residents to strictly adhere to the guidance.
