ADC Dismisses Report, Says INEC Has Not Validated State Chairmen

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed a widely circulated report claiming the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had confirmed a list of its state chairmen nationwide.

In a statement posted on Sunday, September 14, via his official X handle, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, described the report as fake and deliberately designed to mislead.

“The attention of the national leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been drawn to a widely circulated statement titled ‘Coalition Update: INEC Confirms ADC State Chairmen Nationwide,’ which purports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released and validated a list of State Party Chairmen for the ADC across the country.

“This report is fake news, obviously engineered by individuals who have shown relentless determination to sow confusion within our party and mislead the public,” Abdullahi said.

He stressed that INEC has made no such confirmation, either officially or unofficially.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to the best of our knowledge and verification, has issued no such confirmation, neither officially nor unofficially,” he noted.

According to Abdullahi, party constitutions, not INEC, determine how state leadership is constituted and ratified.

“In this regard, let it be clearly stated that the process of constituting and ratifying state leadership within any political party lies squarely within the party’s constitutional prerogative.

“INEC only recognizes what the party submits through the appropriate channels after due process. As of today, no such comprehensive list has been submitted or confirmed by INEC,” he explained.

The ADC urged members to remain focused and ignore misinformation aimed at causing disunity.

“We therefore urge our members and stakeholders to remain calm, vigilant, and guided by official communication from the national leadership of the ADC.

“Let us be reminded that the strength of any political movement lies not just in its numbers, but in its discipline, structure, and fidelity to internal democracy. The ADC remains committed to these values,” Abdullahi said.

He further advised the public to disregard the fake list, assuring that authentic updates will only come from verified channels.

“The public is advised to disregard the fake list in circulation. As always, any authentic update regarding party structure will be communicated via our verified channels,” he stated.
