A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has called for unity within the party, urging members to remain cohesive even after its presidential primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV on Saturday, Rhodes-Vivour acknowledged the growing ambitions within the party, noting that multiple aspirants are already positioning themselves for the presidential ticket, each backed by passionate supporters.
He said the party must carefully manage internal dynamics to prevent divisions that could weaken its chances as a credible opposition force.
“The ADC will not belittle the fact that there are different interests within the party eyeing the presidential ticket,” he said, stressing that such diversity should be seen as a strength rather than a source of conflict.
According to him, the party currently has about two million registered members, with ongoing efforts to expand its base and strengthen its national presence.

Rhodes-Vivour emphasised the importance of focusing on the bigger picture, urging stakeholders to prioritise unity and shared goals over personal ambitions.
“As a party, we must manage these emotions and let people see the bigger picture,” he added.
His remarks come amid increasing political realignments and coalition talks as opposition parties strategise ahead of the next election cycle.
Analysts say maintaining unity after primaries remains a critical challenge for many political parties in Nigeria, where internal disputes often lead to defections and weakened electoral performance.
For the ADC, Rhodes-Vivour’s message underscores the need to build a disciplined and united front capable of presenting a strong alternative to the ruling party in 2027.
