The 2027 governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oyo State, Bimbo Adekanmbi, has denied involvement in an alleged N30 billion financial controversy linked to the administration of the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
Adekanmbi, who served as Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Planning under Ajimobi, spoke on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, on Arise News’ The Morning Show.
He said the funds in question related to local government finances, not the state Ministry of Finance, and maintained that he never attended any meeting of the Joint Accounts Committee (JAC).
Adekanmbi said the relevant records were available and that responsibility for the transactions should be examined at the local government level.
The issue had also surfaced in February 2023, when Adekanmbi responded to questions over allegations involving billions of naira under the Ajimobi administration. He maintained at the time that the matter fell outside his direct responsibilities.

His latest comments come as he prepares to contest the 2027 governorship election. The APM adopted him as its consensus candidate at a primary in Ibadan on May 28, 2026.
Adekanmbi dismissed claims that Governor Seyi Makinde imposed him on the party, saying his emergence followed consultations across the state.
He also rejected suggestions that his support for the “Omituntun 3.0” continuity agenda made him Makinde’s surrogate, saying he would pursue his own manifesto and take responsibility for his decisions if elected.
Adekanmbi further expressed support for Makinde’s reported presidential ambition in 2027.
He previously served under former governors Rashidi Ladoja and Ajimobi before joining Makinde’s administration.
He is seeking to succeed Makinde as Oyo governor in 2027.
