Oyo Lawmakers Endorse Makinde-Backed Adekanmbi For Governorship Race

Members of the Oyo State House of Assembly have endorsed former Commissioner for Finance, Bimbo Adekanmbi, as the preferred governorship aspirant of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The endorsement was made on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, during a strategic breakfast meeting at Adekanmbi’s residence in Iyaganku GRA, Ibadan, led by Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin and attended by lawmakers.

In a statement by the Speaker’s media aide, Oyetunji Oyekunle, the lawmakers said the decision followed consultations on emerging political alignments ahead of the 2027 polls.

The development comes amid succession discussions in Oyo State, with Governor Seyi Makinde reportedly engaging stakeholders over his preferred choice for the next electoral cycle, in which Adekanmbi is widely mentioned.
