Turaki-Led PDP Bloc Seals Alliance With APM In Opposition Push

The Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has entered into an alliance with the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), as opposition groups intensify coalition talks ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The agreement was confirmed on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, by Ini Ememobong, spokesperson of the faction, who said it followed discussions at the All Opposition Political Party Leaders Summit held in Ibadan, Oyo State, in April 2026.

He said the alliance marks the beginning of wider cooperation among opposition parties.

“Many more alliances will come, but this is the starting point,” he said.

The move comes after last month’s understanding between the Turaki-led PDP faction, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and a faction of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to field a joint presidential candidate in 2027.

Political activity around the APM has also intensified. On May 7, 2026, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed reportedly obtained the party’s senatorial nomination form, days after leaving the PDP, fueling speculation over further realignments.

Attention has also turned to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, amid reports linking him to the emerging coalition ahead of a joint APM rally scheduled for Thursday in Ibadan.

Several PDP lawmakers in Oyo State have also reportedly defected to the APM ahead of the rally.

The PDP remains split between the Turaki-led faction and a rival bloc backed by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, which is recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party’s official leadership.
