ESUT Inducts 38 New Doctors, Charges Them On Ethics, Discipline

The Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) has inducted 38 new medical doctors into the profession following the completion of their training at the institution’s College of Medicine.

The induction ceremony was held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at the College of Medicine auditorium within the ESUT Teaching Hospital complex in Enugu, with university officials, medical regulators, faculty members, and families in attendance.

The graduands were formally administered the Hippocratic Oath, qualifying them for housemanship and entry into medical practice in Nigeria.

Speaking at the event, the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) representative, Assistant Registrar Tijani Mandaka, urged the new doctors to uphold humility, professionalism, and teamwork in patient care.

He warned against arrogance, stressing that effective healthcare delivery depends on collaboration across all health professionals.

“Be humble and work with others. You will learn more and serve better when you respect every member of the healthcare team,” he said.

Mandaka also reminded them of their obligation to complete housemanship and comply with all regulatory requirements guiding medical practice.

The Provost of the College of Medicine, Prof. Uchenna Ekwochi, said the induction reflected years of rigorous training and strict academic standards, noting that the institution does not compromise on quality.

“We train doctors who can take responsibility for human lives. There is no compromise on standards,” he said.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, charged the inductees to uphold the values of the university and remain committed to continuous learning as they enter a strained healthcare system.

He urged them to see themselves as ambassadors of ESUT, noting that their conduct will reflect on the institution.

The ceremony ended with celebrations from families and faculty members, marking the transition of the 38 graduands into medical practice.
