Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has warned that a state of emergency would not resolve any crisis if large-scale violence breaks out in the state ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
Adeleke made the remarks during a condolence visit to the family of a slain supporter, Ajayi Aderogba, in Esa-Oke, where he also renewed his call on the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, to intervene over the spate of political killings in the state.
The governor alleged that Aderogba, a father of four, was killed by armed political thugs in the presence of his wife and son on the night of Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
Speaking during the visit, Adeleke accused the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, of failing to address the wave of political violence in the state.
“I was in Esa-Oke to condole with the family of late Ajayi Aderogba, a father of four children who was allegedly killed by APC thugs in the presence of his wife and son on the night of Tuesday, 23rd June, 2026,” Adeleke said.
“I renewed my call on the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Tunji Disu, over the inaction of the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mr Ibrahim Gotan, regarding the spate of political killings and attacks in Osun State.”

The governor warned that continued violence could trigger widespread unrest.
“I have been urging my supporters to be calm and patient. There is what they call a revolution. If it starts in Osun and someone says he is declaring a state of emergency, it will not work,” he said.
Adeleke urged the Inspector-General of Police to ensure that those responsible for the killings are brought to justice.
“I urge Mr Tunji Disu to ensure that this matter is not swept under the carpet, as has become the usual practice,” he said.
The governor also condemned what he described as unnecessary killings by political thugs and assured residents that his administration would continue to protect lives and property.
“Again, I condemn these unnecessary killings by political thugs, and I assure all our supporters and people of Osun State that we have the capacity to defend and protect them,” he added.
Adeleke’s visit comes amid heightened political tension in Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
