Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced a two-week leave approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, marking his first official break since assuming office on May 29, 2023.
Shettima began the leave on Thursday, August 6, 2026, with the period dedicated to study, reflection and policy review, according to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha.
The statement said the leave would allow the Vice President to assess ongoing government programmes, engage with emerging national and global policy developments and prepare for the next phase of implementing the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Since the administration began, Shettima has played a key role in coordinating government priorities, including economic development, food security, humanitarian affairs, digital transformation, job creation and regional cooperation.
As Chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC), he has led policy engagements involving the 36 state governors, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and other senior officials on economic and social welfare matters.
The Vice President has also represented President Tinubu at regional and international engagements focused on investment, security, economic integration, climate action and sustainable development.
The Presidency said Shettima remains committed to supporting the administration’s development goals and will resume official duties after the two-week break with renewed focus and dedication.
