Aisha Yesufu Withdraws From NDC FCT Senate Race

Aisha Yesufu, activist and ally of Peter Obi, has withdrawn from the Nigeria Democratic Congress senate race for the Federal Capital Territory ahead of the 2027 general election.

Yesufu had on May 6 declared her intention to contest for the FCT senatorial seat after defecting from the African Democratic Congress to the NDC.

At the time, she said her decision to seek elective office was influenced by the leadership experience she gained while in the ADC.

However, recent speculation suggested that the NDC leadership had resolved to hand the FCT senate ticket to another aspirant, Amanda Pam, who had reportedly been in the party before Yesufu’s defection.

In a statement issued on Friday, Yesufu confirmed that the party would not conduct primaries for the FCT senatorial seat, effectively ending her ambition for the position.

“Our party has decided not to conduct primaries for the Senatorial seat in FCT Abuja. It however intends to conduct primaries for House of Representatives! Go ahead and make your choice known!” she stated.

Despite stepping down from the race, the activist urged her supporters to remain calm and focus on the broader political objective ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

“I urge each and everyone of you to remain calm and focus on the bigger picture which is the presidential election. Nigeria will be OK!” she said.

Yesufu also expressed appreciation to supporters who backed her senate ambition.

“I appreciate all your support, dedication and commitment towards #AishaForSenate project,” she added.

She further disclosed plans to continue engaging residents across the six area councils of the FCT.

“In the coming week I will be returning back to all the 6 Area Councils God willing to appreciate them for the warm welcome and continue to forge ahead for a #BetterFCT,” she stated.
