Akpabio: Insecurity Will Disappear Two Weeks After Elections

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said the current wave of insecurity in Nigeria will subside shortly after the upcoming elections, attributing the situation to political activities ahead of the polls.

He made the remarks on Tuesday, April 14, in Abuja during the official launch of the Nigerian Revenue Service Corporate Headquarters, where he defended the performance of President Bola Tinubu and criticised opposition elements.

Akpabio argued that the spike in insecurity is being driven by individuals who are unsettled by the political landscape and are allegedly sponsoring unrest.

Insecurity is increasing because election is coming, because people don’t know what to do again. Immediately after election, two weeks after election, the insecurity will stop. The insecurity is being sponsored by people,” Akpabio said.

He also mocked the opposition, describing it as disorganised and lacking direction, while taking a swipe at Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election.

“Opposition is in disarray, someone got six million votes and abandoned the party, abandoned the six million votes and went shopping for another platform and they are blaming the ruling party,” he said.

Akpabio further appealed to Nigerians to remain patient with the current administration, maintaining that the government is on the right path.

“Let Nigerians be patient with you, you are doing the right thing,” he added.
