Akpabio, Senators Pay Respects to Late Ezea’s Family

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Tuesday, the 25th of November, 2025, led a delegation of senators to the Abuja home of the late Senator Okechukwu Ezea to offer condolences to his family. Senator Ezea, who represented Enugu North Senatorial District in the 10th Senate, passed away suddenly on the 18th of November, 2025.

In a mark of respect, the Senate had earlier adjourned its plenary session for the day to allow the lawmakers to pay the condolence visit.

In his remarks to the bereaved family, Senate President Akpabio emphasized that the purpose of the visit was to demonstrate solidarity during their time of grief and to assure them that they were not grieving in isolation.

Akpabio spoke about the deep bond shared among colleagues in the National Assembly: “It is not always a very good experience to stay with a colleague for over two years, see each other daily, see him more than family members and then all of a sudden he vanishes just like that.

The Senate President affirmed the collective shock and sorrow felt by the legislative body: “We are gathered here in our numbers to commiserate with your family and to let you know that you are not alone in mourning your late husband, father, brother and your late uncle, Distinguished Senator Ezea.

He described the late senator as a person of commendable character during his brief tenure: “For the brief period that we have interacted with him in the Senate, he was a man of peace. He was a man who related with his colleagues with dignity and respect.

Akpabio also highlighted the sudden nature of the loss: “You can imagine the shock when we heard of his demise because there was never a time he walked into the chamber and showed that he was sick in any form. But the news came suddenly that he has passed on.”

Responding on behalf of the Ezea family, the son of the late senator, Jideofor Ezea, expressed gratitude for the visit from the Senate President and his entourage, assuring them that the family would always remember the profound gesture. He appreciated the lawmakers for their words of encouragement and prayers, which he said provided them with comfort.
