As the Senate reconvenes on Tuesday, the 7th of October, 2025, Kenny Okolugbo, media aide to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has called on Nigerians to take an active role in the constitution amendment process.
In a statement released on Monday, the 6th of October, Okolugbo stressed the importance of public participation in the amendment exercise, urging citizens to attend and contribute to the public hearings. “As the National Assembly resumes tomorrow 7th October 2025 let us all ensure our voices will be heard during the public hearings for the amendment of the constitution,” he said.
He attributed the current stability of the Naira to “direct interventions by the Senate in policy shaping of this administration,” adding that the upper chamber had taken bold steps to keep the country on the right path.
Okolugbo highlighted several achievements of the 10th Senate, including the passage of “The Tax bill which was almost thrown out but now has been passed into law.” He also mentioned “NELFUND, passed into law, has ensured students that can’t pay their fees get a loan and will not pay back until they are gainfully employed.”
He went on to note that “The five development commissions, South East, South West, South South, North West and North Central all signed into law and have been established ensuring development is brought nearer to the people.” He added that “Minimum wage act where salaries were increased by 100% and ensuring that those earning minimum wage do not pay tax again.”
“These are just a few out of the fifty two bills passed by the 10th Senate, signed by the President and Commander in Chief,” he stated, disclosing that “over ninety bills have been passed, another two hundred at different reading stages.”
“In fact, what the 10th senate has achieved can only be described as uncommon,” he said.

Okolugbo further explained that despite not receiving the medium term expenditure framework and fiscal strategy paper from the Executive, “the Senate has already swung into action to ensure that the capital projects of 2024 and 2025 budget is not lost by making an extension.”
He revealed that a security summit will soon be convened “to find the root cause of insecurity in the country,” while noting that “electricity act to ensure that no increase in tariffs for light bills we do not always have is in place.”
On the cordial relationship between the legislature and the Executive, Okolugbo defended it, saying “the act of making laws and oversight functions the main duties of the legislature does not have to be effective by mere being confrontational.”
He concluded that the Senate under Akpabio’s leadership “had shown capacity to meet the expectations of Nigerians.”
