Akwa Ibom Denies Withdrawing Security from Ex-Gov Udom Emmanuel

The Akwa Ibom State Government has debunked reports alleging that Governor Umo Eno ordered the withdrawal of security operatives attached to his predecessor, Udom Emmanuel, describing the claim as false and misleading.

Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, dismissed the story as “inflammatory and concocted lies,” insisting that no such directive was ever issued by the governor.

Some media reports had claimed that Eno ordered the removal of security personnel from the former governor’s residence due to a political disagreement linked to the 2027 elections.

The publications referenced a supposed order dated 30 September, allegedly signed by an assistant superintendent of police, Ekwo Godwin, directing operatives to withdraw from Emmanuel’s home on 1 October and report to the police headquarters in Uyo.

The reports also suggested that the action targeted other former state officials who refused to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reacting through a statement released on Sunday, October 5, by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ekerete Udoh, Umanah said the allegations were entirely fabricated.

He clarified that matters relating to the deployment or withdrawal of police officers are handled by the Inspector-General of Police and the state Commissioner of Police, not by governors.

“I can tell you on good authority that the Governor did not issue any directive to withdraw security operatives from the immediate past Governor,” Umanah stated.

He explained that all former governors of Akwa Ibom are entitled to security details as stipulated by law, noting that no complaints had been received from any of them or their aides.

“To the best of our knowledge, there has been no report of any withdrawal of security personnel. The rumour exists only in the imagination of those peddling it,” he said.

Umanah urged residents to disregard the “baseless propaganda,” adding that Governor Eno remains committed to peace, unity, and good governance across Akwa Ibom State, ensuring every citizen enjoys full protection under the law.
