Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has warned that President Bola Tinubu would destroy Abuja or even relocate the Federal Capital Territory to Lagos if the APC remains in power in 2027.
Speaking during the #OccupyINEC protest in Abuja on Wednesday, April 8, Mr Amaechi reaffirmed the African Democratic Congress’s (ADC) commitment to defeating the All Progressives Congress in the next general elections, comparing it to APC’s victory over the PDP in 2015.
“APC chased PDP out. It is our time to chase APC out of power. If you allow them to continue, they will ruin this capital or take it to Lagos. So you must vote them out of power,” he said.
The protest followed the Independent National Electoral Commission’s derecognition of ADC leaders amid the party’s ongoing internal leadership crisis.
Prominent ADC figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, David Mark, and Rauf Aregbesola, joined the rally, urging Nigerians to reject Tinubu’s APC.
Mr Amaechi accused Tinubu of undermining democracy, questioning why the APC claims popularity yet allegedly fears elections.

“APC said they are popular. Why are they afraid of elections? Tinubu said he is a leader of NADECO. Why is he killing democracy? In 2015, APC enjoyed Jega who was the best and still remains the best INEC chairman,” he said.
He criticised the appointment of Joash Amupitan as INEC chairman, claiming it was a move to suppress opposition parties.
“President Tinubu went to appoint someone who is a lawyer. Anyone who can protect his reputation has no business in INEC. I am ashamed of the INEC chairman.
“He started first by making sure parties were not registered because they’re afraid that they would lose elections. Whether they like it or not, they will lose the elections,” Mr Amaechi said.
The former governor also condemned Tinubu for creating unemployment and other national issues, urging Nigerians to vote against the APC.
“Tinubu is creating unemployment in Nigeria. If Nigerians allow them, they will continue. Imagine the president who changed the national anthem immediately he came into power. I have given my contribution; it’s left for you to do the needful,” he added.
