Former Rep Resigns From APC, Blasts Party Leadership In Edo

Former House of Representatives member, Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing interference and marginalisation in Edo State.

Agbonayinma, who represented Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency from 2015 to 2019, announced his resignation on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, in Benin City.

He said long-serving members who helped build the party were being sidelined by a few individuals controlling local party affairs.

In a letter to the APC chairman of Ikpoba-Okha Ward 7, he accused party leaders outside his constituency, including Adams Oshiomhole and Osagie Ize-Iyamu, of overruling ward-level decisions and imposing candidates not endorsed by local members.

The former Code of Conduct Bureau member claimed his appointment as acting chairman of the bureau was blocked despite a presidential directive, with party insiders allegedly threatening punitive measures.

He also criticised the distribution of federal appointments in Edo State, arguing that Edo South, the most populous zone was sidelined.

He noted that ambassadorial postings and federal agency positions were concentrated in Edo North, leaving qualified leaders from the South overlooked.

Agbonayinma added that local ward nominations were repeatedly ignored until external influence reversed outcomes, undermining his authority and ability to empower constituents.

He said he could no longer remain in a party that, in his view, lacked internal democracy and respect for founding members.

His resignation signals a shift in Edo politics as parties position ahead of upcoming elections.
