Enugu APC Rocked By Mass Resignations, Defectors Eye ADC

A wave of resignations has hit the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, with several senior members of the party stepping down and accusing the state leadership of sidelining longstanding members.

The resignations were publicly announced on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, and indications suggest that some of the defectors are preparing to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the coming days.

Among those who resigned are Ambassador Ejike Simon Eze, the APC’s 2023 Enugu North Senatorial candidate; Chief Charles Solomon Ako, former State Publicity Secretary; and Dr. Simon Chinekwu Attah, immediate past chairman of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, alongside other prominent party figures.

The departures highlight tensions between the party’s original members and newer entrants reportedly aligned with Governor Peter Mbah.

Speaking with journalists in Enugu, Ambassador Eze said his resignation followed undemocratic practices and deliberate sidelining of long-serving members.

He noted that he personally funded his senatorial campaign in 2023 but received neither support from the party nor consideration for political appointments afterward.

Chief Charles Solomon Ako cited loss of internal democracy and exclusion as reasons for his decision, describing longstanding members as “internally displaced” following the influx of new entrants.

Dr. Simon Chinekwu Attah added that internal developments within the party, particularly lack of inclusiveness and marginalisation of key stakeholders, made it increasingly difficult to contribute effectively to the party’s progress.

In a statement announcing his exit, Ambassador Eze’s team said the decision came after deep reflection and careful consideration, affirming his commitment to justice, equity, and democratic values.

Sources indicate that discussions are ongoing for a collective move to the ADC as a platform for continued political engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The mass resignation underscores growing tensions within the APC in Enugu State and signals potential shifts in the state’s political landscape as parties position themselves for upcoming elections.

Efforts by the departing members to pursue their political objectives outside the APC mark a notable development in the state’s evolving political dynamics.
