CSOs Storm National Assembly, Caution Against Disrupting Pipeline Security Gains

Members of the Coalition of Civil Society for Economic Protection on Wednesday converged on the National Assembly, staging a protest to warn against any moves that could undermine Nigeria’s pipeline security framework.

The demonstrators, carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs, stressed the need to safeguard critical national assets, particularly within the oil and gas sector, which remains central to the country’s economy.

Speaking during the protest on Wednesday, coalition leader Teslim Adepoju said the action was necessary to draw national attention to the progress already recorded in securing oil infrastructure and boosting production levels.

He emphasized that any ongoing or future discussions around pipeline surveillance contracts must be anchored on proven performance and measurable outcomes, rather than political considerations.

The group warned that weakening the current framework could reverse hard-earned gains and expose vital infrastructure to renewed threats.
