The Edo State Executive Council has endorsed a revised supplementary budget of N799.820 billion for the 2025 fiscal year, marking an 18 per cent increase from the earlier N675.220 billion.
A statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Fred Itua, on Tuesday revealed that the decision followed an emergency executive meeting presided over by Governor Monday Okpebholo.
Briefing journalists, the Commissioner for Finance, Emmanuel Okoebor, said the adjustment reflects the government’s renewed focus on infrastructure.
He explained that capital expenditure will now account for 70 per cent of the revised budget, while recurrent takes 30 per cent, a reversal from the previous 67:33 ratio.
“This increment of about N125 billion shows Governor Okpebholo’s determination to boost infrastructural development in Edo State. We have already completed 254km of roads, with more projects underway,” Okoebor stated.

He added that the rise in recurrent expenditure, pegged at five per cent, was driven by the new minimum wage and recent recruitments in key sectors, including health.
On his part, Commissioner for Information and Communication, Paul Ohombamu, confirmed that the revised budget will be sent to the Edo State House of Assembly for legislative approval.
The move comes less than a year after the Assembly passed the original 2025 budget of N675 billion in December 2024, which itself was an upward review of the governor’s initial N605 billion proposal tagged “Budget of Renewed Hope for a Rising Edo.”
