Amaechi Wrong, I Didn’t Start ADC Coalition — Fayemi Fires Back

Former Ekiti State governor Kayode Fayemi has pushed back against claims by ex-transport minister Rotimi Amaechi that the two of them co-founded the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition before inviting other politicians to join.

In a statement issued on Sunday, August 10, Fayemi’s media aide, Ahmad Sajoh, said there is “no credible evidence” to support Amaechi’s version of events. He stressed that no video or reputable news report backs the story.

“We unequivocally state that these claims lack any basis. Dr. Fayemi remains a committed member and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State. Nothing has changed,” Sajoh said.

The statement was a direct response to remarks Amaechi made during an X Spaces conversation on Saturday.

Amaechi had claimed that the coalition “started with me and Fayemi in the house of Nasiru Danu with Salihu Mohammed and others.”

According to Amaechi, the initial meeting, organized by former APC vice-chairman (north-west) Salihu Mohammed, was meant to reconcile him and Fayemi.

From there, it expanded to include figures like Senator Aminu Tambuwal.

A committee led by former Cross River governor Liyel Imoke was then tasked with identifying a party for the coalition, eventually settling on the ADC after talks with other parties like AA and Accord.

But Sajoh dismissed the suggestion that Fayemi had any hand in founding the coalition.

He also warned the public to be cautious about social media narratives that might be “fabricated or distorted” for political mischief.

“Dr Fayemi has publicly endorsed Governor Biodun Oyebanji for re-election and is fully behind the APC in Ekiti State.

“He often engages in conversations about Nigeria’s future with people across political lines, but that is not the same as defecting from the APC. If he were to leave the party, he would say so openly,” Sajoh added.
