National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Sly Ezeokenwa, has described Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State as “one of the most transparent and well-organised in the state’s history”.
Ezeokenwa made the remark in Awka on Sunday, November 9, during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria while reacting to the victory of Governor Chukwuma Soludo at the just concluded poll.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Soludo the winner of the November 8 election.
The Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Edogah Omoregie, announced in Awka that Soludo of APGA polled 422,664 votes to defeat his closest rival, Chief Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 99,445 votes.

According to Ezeokenwa, the election was a clear demonstration of INEC’s growing capacity to deliver credible polls.
“INEC deserves commendation for ensuring transparency and fairness throughout the process,” he said.
He also praised residents of the state for maintaining peace and order during the exercise, describing their conduct as exemplary.
“I thank residents for their exemplary behaviour and for maintaining peace before, during and after the polls. I also commend the media for their professionalism in reporting the process,” he added.
Ezeokenwa noted that Anambra had never experienced an election as well-organised as the one held on November 8, crediting the peaceful atmosphere and credible process to the collective efforts of all stakeholders.
