The National Youth Service Corps has placed strong emphasis on the safety and neutrality of corps members who will serve as ad-hoc staff during the Anambra governorship election scheduled for November 8.
During a sensitisation programme in Awka on Tuesday, October 28, NYSC State Coordinator, Pauline Ojisua, urged corps members to remain professional and avoid political entanglement while performing their duties.
“We advised the corps members to prioritise personal safety, avoid unnecessary movements, and report any security threat promptly to the appropriate authorities,” Ojisua said.
“Do not argue or resist in the face of violence; protect yourself first and contact security operatives or your supervisors immediately. Always move as a team and never handle election materials without proper escort,” she added.
Ojisua, who addressed corps members from Awka South, Dunukofia, Njikoka, and Awka North, said their role was central to the credibility of the polls.

She cautioned against accepting inducements, noting that any corps member involved in vote-buying or malpractice would face strict sanctions from both INEC and the NYSC.
“Your integrity is your greatest asset. Remember, the NYSC uniform does not confer immunity on you,” she warned.
The coordinator also reminded them that the NYSC-INEC partnership, formalised in 2010 through a Memorandum of Understanding, guarantees welfare, insurance, and logistical support for participating corps members.
“Your safety comes first, your neutrality is sacred, and your integrity is non-negotiable,” Ojisua said, reaffirming the scheme’s commitment to protecting its members.
The sensitisation, which included representatives from security agencies, was part of NYSC’s statewide efforts to ensure corps members are adequately prepared for a safe, credible, and transparent election in Anambra State.
