Anambra Poll: Soludo Formalises Zoning of Governorship Seat

Governor Chukwuma Soludo has declared that Anambra’s governorship seat will now officially rotate among the state’s three senatorial districts, stressing that the zoning principle has been institutionalised and should guide all future elections.

The governor, who is contesting for a second term on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), made the announcement in Abatete on Saturday during a campaign endorsement rally that also doubled as a homecoming ceremony for Ifeanyi Ibezi, a former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress who has rejoined APGA.

According to a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, on Sunday, September 21, Soludo explained that the decision was aimed at deepening fairness in Anambra politics.

He noted that the South currently occupies the governorship after the North held it for two terms of eight years, and indicated that the baton would eventually move to the Central zone.

He said, “Following this term, the Central Senatorial district will have the opportunity to govern for the next eight years.”

The governor praised Ibezi’s return to APGA, describing the party as the natural home of progressive politics in Anambra.

“APGA serves as the umbrella for all progressives in Anambra. In fact, Anambra is synonymous with APGA, and APGA is synonymous with Anambra,” he said.

Soludo maintained that the campaign had transformed into a mass-driven movement, with communities across the state holding endorsement events on their own.

“We are going round the state welcoming major people back into the fold. APGA has never been more united and stronger than it is today,” he added.

Confident of victory at the November 8 polls, Soludo called on voters in Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra’s most populous LGA with historically low turnout, to demonstrate their electoral strength.

He assured residents that his administration’s projects and reforms would continue to position Anambra as a rising state.
