APC Appoints Nwoye Deputy Chairman, Promises Grassroots Focus

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday night elected Dr. Ben Nwoye as its new Deputy National Chairman (South), replacing Chief Emma Eneukwu. The decision was made during the party’s National Convention held at Eagles Square.

Chief Eneukwu had previously held the position, but Nwoye’s emergence, secured through a consensus arrangement, signals the party’s efforts to reposition its mobilization strategy ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.

Dr. Nwoye, a legal practitioner and former Caretaker Committee Chairman of the APC in Enugu State, entered the contest alongside Mr. Eneukwu after both were screened for the office.

Addressing delegates during the convention, Nwoye outlined plans to strengthen internal party democracy and ensure that the party’s foundation remains connected to its grassroots members rather than being dominated by elite interests. He also proposed the establishment of a “Women and Youth Empowerment Desk,” aimed at providing direct support and a stronger platform for participation to party members who have historically felt marginalized.

“The APC must continue to be broad enough to accommodate diversity and disciplined enough to protect its values,” Nwoye emphasized in the lead-up to the election.
