The All Progressives Congress has donated N52 million to the families of 37 miners who died while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Niger State.
The Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, disclosed this on Tuesday while receiving the APC National Working Committee, led by the party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, during a condolence visit.
Bago expressed appreciation to the party leadership for visiting the state and offering financial assistance to the families of the deceased as well as survivors of the incident.
He said a state committee headed by his deputy, Yakubu Garba, would collaborate with the Emir of Minna, Farouk Bahago, to ensure the funds are distributed to the affected families.
Yilwatda, who conveyed the APC’s condolences to the government and people of Niger State, described the incident as a difficult moment for the state.
The APC chairman noted that Niger had recently faced a number of security challenges and assured the government and affected families of the party’s continued support.

“For the affected families, may God strengthen and comfort them in this challenging period. All this will pass away,” Yilwatda said.
He also commended Bago for his response to the incident and pledged the party’s continued backing for his administration.
After meeting with the governor, Yilwatda and other members of the National Working Committee proceeded to the palace of the Emir of Minna for a separate condolence visit.
The Emir, Umar-Bahago, thanked the APC leadership for the visit and the financial assistance provided to the families of the deceased miners.
