Four miners have died after a mining pit collapsed in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, while the victims were reportedly mining tin.
Bokkos Youth Leader, Daniel Tula, confirmed the deaths, saying the victims comprised two men and two women. He said they were trapped underground and later buried by their relatives.
Tula described the incident as the first major mining accident of its kind in the area, adding that the cause of the collapse was yet to be established.
The Plateau State Police Command said it had not received an official report on the incident.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, said mining accidents were sometimes not reported to the police, making immediate verification difficult. He said further details would be provided after an official briefing.
Efforts to reach the Bokkos Local Government chairman were unsuccessful.
The deaths occurred about six weeks after seven miners were killed in another pit collapse at Kassa, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, on August 12.
The latest incident has renewed concerns over safety standards and regulatory enforcement at mining sites across the state.
