The All Progressives Congress (APC) has claimed a sweeping victory in the Lagos State local government elections, winning all 57 chairmanship seats and 375 out of 376 councillorship positions.
This was confirmed on Sunday, July 13, by the Chairman of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), Retired Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile, during the official declaration of results at the Commission’s headquarters in Sabo, Yaba.
“APC won all 57 chairmanship seats and 375 councillorship seats,” she said, adding that the only councillorship seat lost by the ruling party went to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Yaba LCDA.
A total of 15 political parties participated in Saturday’s election.
Justice Okikiolu-Ighile praised the conduct of voters and the general public, describing the atmosphere as peaceful and orderly.
“We are pleased to announce that no major cases of electoral violence or ballot snatching, voter intimidation or general breakdown of law and order were recorded,” she said.

She also acknowledged the efforts of security agencies and the media, saying, “Their presence was a significant factor in maintaining a conducive, congenial atmosphere across the polling units.”
While commending the enthusiasm of residents during the elections, she noted that it demonstrated a shared belief in the importance of local governance and grassroots development. However, she admitted that voter apathy remains a concern.
“We acknowledge that voter apathy remains a concern and we are committed to strengthening our voter education and stakeholders’ engagement strategies relentlessly,” she said.
Justice Okikiolu-Ighile reported that the election process was generally “free, fair, peaceful, orderly, transparent, credible, and devoid of significant obstructions,” though some areas experienced delays due to logistical challenges.
According to her, results had been collated and announced lawfully across the wards and councils by designated returning officers.
She added that certificates of return would soon be presented to the elected chairmen and councillors at LASIEC headquarters.
