High Chief Ben Obi, a chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State, popularly known as “Igwe APGA,” has urged Governor Chukwuma Soludo to remove underperforming commissioners and advisers ahead of his second term.
In a press statement on Friday, February 6, 2026, Obi said over 80 per cent of the cabinet had failed to deliver and should be replaced with competent officials to improve governance and service delivery.
He also called for the disqualification of all incumbent chairmen of the 21 local government areas and councillors ahead of the Saturday, August 29, 2026 local government elections, citing poor performance and the need to strengthen grassroots leadership.

Obi said removing ineffective officials would open space for “fresh hands with new ideas,” boost productivity, and reinforce the merit-based approach of the Soludo-led government.
Retaining non-performing officeholders, he warned, would entrench mediocrity.
He stressed the need for well-trained screening panels to ensure local government aspirants are credible and qualified party members.
Obi urged Governor Soludo, the APGA National and State Chairmen, and the governor’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, Dr Alex Obiogbolu, to implement these recommendations, emphasizing that governance must prioritize merit over mediocrity.
