The African Policy and Research Consortium (APRC) has congratulated its Executive Coordinator, Hon. (Prof.) Stephen S. Azaiki, OON, on his appointment as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Third Governing Council of Ritman University, Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.
In a statement issued by its Deputy Coordinator, Edward Agbai, APRC described the appointment as a fitting recognition of Professor Azaiki’s longstanding contributions to public service, academia, institutional leadership and national development.
According to the organisation, the appointment by the university’s Board of Trustees reflects Professor Azaiki’s distinguished record of leadership and commitment to advancing knowledge-driven governance and societal progress.
The consortium noted that over several decades, Azaiki has built a reputation as a respected scholar, administrator and public servant whose work has impacted policy development and institutional growth across Nigeria and beyond.
As Executive Coordinator of APRC, the statement said, he has provided strategic direction that has strengthened the organisation’s role as a leading platform for policy dialogue, governance reforms and research-based advocacy across Africa.
The consortium further stated that under his leadership, APRC has expanded its influence through partnerships, knowledge-sharing initiatives and evidence-based policy engagement aimed at promoting sustainable development on the continent.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan also congratulated Professor Azaiki on the appointment, describing it as well deserved.
“We thank God. You really deserve the appointment. Your kind are not many. Congratulations,” Jonathan was quoted as saying.
Reacting to the development, APRC Deputy Coordinator, Prof. Edward Agbai, said Azaiki’s appointment represents a major milestone for both Ritman University and the broader academic and policy community.

“Professor Stephen S. APRC said Professor Azaiki’s unique blend of scholarly achievement, public service experience and policy expertise places him in a strong position to contribute significantly to the university’s development and strategic direction.
