Sanwo-Olu Hails Tunji Disu’s Appointment As Acting IGP

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated Olatunji Disu on his appointment as Acting Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Tinubu, describing the elevation as well deserved.

In a statement shared via his verified X account on Wednesday, Sanwo-Olu commended Disu’s decades of service in the Nigeria Police Force, noting that the senior officer had built a reputation grounded in professionalism, discipline, and measurable results.

“This appointment is well deserved,” the governor stated. “AIG Tunji Disu has put in over three decades of solid and consistent work in the Nigeria Police Force. He has earned this moment through professionalism, discipline, and proven results.”

Sanwo-Olu reflected on Disu’s tenure in Lagos, particularly his time as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), where he said the officer demonstrated strong leadership and a deep understanding of both the terrain and the people.

“In Lagos, we saw his leadership up close… He understood the streets and the people, and he approached the job with focus and courage,” the governor noted.

Expressing confidence in the new Acting IGP, Sanwo-Olu said Nigeria requires a police force that is both accountable and effective, adding that Disu possesses the experience and character necessary to drive that vision.

The appointment has drawn reactions from various quarters, with many highlighting Disu’s track record in law enforcement and his role in strengthening rapid response operations in Lagos.

“Congratulations once again,” Sanwo-Olu added. “Lagos is proud.”
