National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has said he has remained faithful to his wife, Sherifat, since their marriage.
Aregbesola made the disclosure on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at an ADC campaign rally in Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State, six days before the governorship election.
Speaking in Yoruba, Aregbesola attributed his marital fidelity to his fear of God and a personal commitment he made when he married.
He also linked his conduct to his appeal for divine support for the ADC’s bid to win the election, saying he had prayed for the party to take control of the Osun Government House by June next year.
“I told God that next June, we must do it at the government house,” he said.

The remarks came as the ADC intensified its campaign across the state ahead of Saturday’s poll, with Aregbesola playing a prominent role in the party’s mobilisation.
Aregbesola governed Osun State from 2010 to 2018 and later served as Minister of Interior between 2019 and 2023. He left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the ADC in 2025 and subsequently became the party’s national secretary.
His return to Osun’s political arena has heightened interest in the ADC’s prospects, with the election also viewed as a test of the former governor’s continuing influence in the state.
The ADC is fielding Najeem Folasayo Salaam, a former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly. Incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke is contesting on the platform of the Accord Party, while Bola Oyebamiji is the APC candidate.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the election for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
