The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, Rauf Aregbesola, has dismissed reports of a possible return to the All Progressives Congress, insisting that he remains committed to the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Aregbesola spoke on Sunday, May 10, 2026, during the Osun ADC leadership and stakeholders’ meeting in Ilesa, attended by party members from the 332 wards across the state.
At the meeting, the former Osun State governor formally presented the ADC governorship candidate for the August 15, 2026 election, Dr Najeem Salaam, to party stakeholders and supporters.
Reacting to speculation about his alleged reconciliation with the APC, Aregbesola described the claims as unfounded, stressing that he had no reason to return to the ruling party after leaving it more than three years ago.
He accused the APC of abandoning the progressive ideals on which it was founded, particularly in the areas of welfare and security.

“The APC has completely abandoned the foundational vision and people-oriented ideals upon which governance should stand. The primary essence of government remains welfare and security, both of which have been neglected and thrown into the dustbin,” he said.
Aregbesola said the ADC had continued to expand despite political pressure and opposition, expressing confidence in the party’s chances ahead of future elections.
He urged members to strengthen grassroots mobilization across the state in preparation for the Osun governorship poll and the 2027 elections.
The former minister also called for unity and dedication among party faithful, saying the ADC was positioning itself as a strong alternative force in the country’s political landscape.
His comments come amid the continuing fallout between him and the APC following the exit of his Omoluabi Progressives group from the party after months of internal disagreements in Osun State.
